belated blog: "Literary examples"

Things I learned about myself Friday
1) I giggle and smile when I'm uncomfortable

Example: Darren was staring down at the car parked 2 floors down in the lot, with the look of death. He would rather be dead then deal with this shit. The phone rang. "Darren, Kim is here and would like you to meet her down stairs," the receptionist said while giggling. "Don't laugh!" Darren replied as he turned and walked out the door. The receptionist turned white. Why would she laugh at someone else's dread? She laughed because she was uncomfortable. He didn't want to see his sister and she knew it. Who was she to play the page in this royal family of Medici?

2) I don't speak up, I avoid (which makes me a tease)

Example: Later that night she smiled as the drunken asshole kissed her on the cheek. Repeatedly. She reminded herself that the physical act of smiling tricks your brain into releasing happy hormones; also known as "drugs". This lesson in avoidance had been taught lovingly to her by many in the past. Although the page of the Medici had never approved of her family of avoiders, she had picked up more tricks then she was ready to admit. "It is easier then verbally turning down this beaten boy, with horrors in his near past." These words sounded so familiar rattling in her head.

3) I'm elitist about moments

Example: It was a spontaneous creation of art. The two groups talked in a single room. Not paying any attention to the other. Then awkwardly the individual circles fell silent. Some thought, "every 70 seconds a conversation will have a pause. What are the odds that two conversations would fall silent on the same second?" The muses spoke to the fates, "create the odds." The silence of twelve people in a single room was immense. Making everyone pause and take notice. Finally one girl giggled. Two said "Whoa," thinking if we acknowledge it we can move on. The muses pushed one boy into another, he tapped Chris with a teasing. "Chris, you're so messed up you can't even make a sound." "Sound?" Chris mumbled, "I'll make some sound." He began to beat box, crisp and clear. A sound words can not describe. A second joined in, matching Chris in creativity, playing off his lead. The third joined the group. And it was an event. The dozen people who were previously awkward about silence were witnessing to a spontaneous creation. Many of them were so in awe of the moment they couldn't remember what silence was. Cathy said, "I wish I had my video camera." Page was thinking the same thing. But then recanted it secretly, thinking "On a planet of millions, I'm one of twelve people who will be witness to this." She felt special, unique.
